Mis Hap

So we had our first real messy mis hap the other day. We are trying to potty train Koda. We have a big crate but we wanted a smaller one so that if he went to the bathroom in it he would not be able to get away from it. So we borrowed a smaller crate from someone. Well.....that did not work so well. We left Koda in the cage while we went to work and we put Reign on the balcony. Jonah went home on his lunch break to check on the puppy and was hit with a wall of stench! He went to get Koda out of his cage and saw that Koda, along with his cage, was covered in dog poop!!! Jonah took him straight to the bathroom to give him a bath. So we are not going to use the small cage from now on. He will just have to learn that he goes outside. I dont have a problem if he pees in the cage. That doesn't smell as bad as when he poops. But we will see how this potty training goes. The good news is, is we think that Koda is starting to warn up to us a little bit. We took him outside with Reign and he started to play around with us a little bit. But he still has some things to get used to. He still would rather huddle in a corner than come be with us. But we are working on it. Slowly but surely.

How old is he? If he's only a few months old, no matter if he's in a crate or not..he can't hold it. My old dog trainer said however many months is about how long they can hold it. 3 months=3hours so on and so on

I have learned from all our dogs the best thing to do is keep it in the crate when you are home and not able to watch him 24/7 and then take Koda out every hour and give him treats right after he goes potty.. but if you have to leave him while at work the big crate should do the trick. Hope this helps a little. =)

Haha. I'm so glad that I don't have to potty trail for a while. Get this, the last time that I was potty training was my daughter and 4 puppies. I was so sick and tired of kneeling on the floor and cleaning up poop and pee. Thankfully it doesn't last forever! Good Luck! I sympathize, truly.
